For D ring shade sails you will need to allow space for any fixtures you will be using. The measurements for our shade sail fixture kits can be found on the second diagram on the product page.
If you are planning on using your D ring shade sail outdoors and will leave it set up when it rains, as well as angling the shade sail by a minimum of 20-30 degrees, you must pull the sail as tight as possible so the material is completely taut without any sagging. This means you need to allow space to pull the shade sail tight, which we refer to as tensioning space.
The closer the shade sail is to your fixing points, the more stable it will be. As a guideline only, and depending on your space and chosen shade sail fixtures, you can factor in a tensioning space of up to 10% of the shade sail length between each D ring and the fixing point for shade sails under 4m. For larger shade sails over 4m, as a guide only, a minimum tensioning space of 30cm from each corner is recommended.
We are unable to give any specific measurement, size, or installation advice, so if you have concerns about whether you are ordering the correct size shade sail, we suggest you use the services of a builder or DIY expert or ask about the measuring and installation service.
For Made to Measure Eyelet Shade Sails, the space between the edge of the sail and the eyelets is approximately 5mm
